Mommy Daughter Day

Earlier this month, Allie and I spent a special day together...a mommy daughter day.
She came with me to a Christmas party held by the NICU parent support group I volunteer with. She was so excited to see Santa there. I was surprised that she was a little nervous to see him when it was her turn in line. But, she did it and she told him that she wanted a toy horse.

Afterwards, we went out for lunch and she was totally enjoying the chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. She even ate mine!

Then, off we went to see The Nutcracker Ballet downtown with some friends.
I had talked to her about going to the ballet ahead of time, and then that day she asked me when we were going to dance class!
I told her, '"No, we're not the ones dancing...we're watching!"

Allie loved it...except at the end she said she wished there was talking in it.
Haha...that's a girl for you! Allie does love to talk!
Later she referred to it as her favorite place to go.
I feel so blessed that I was able to take her.
It has been on my list of "things I'd love to do with her" for a couple years now.

Here Comes Christmas

Last Thursday we went to pick out our Christmas tree on the way home from getting the kids at school. It was a balmy 21 degrees outside. Absolutely freezing if you ask me!

It's tradition that we always go as a family to get our tree.
Josh couldn't help but take this picture of me sitting in my car because I ALMOST didn't get out! I was so cold already.
But, I couldn't miss out. So, I ran and caught up with everyone as they were standing next to our 2013 Christmas tree.

For the last number of years now, we always pick out a tree that is all tied up and take a risk on what it will be like when we open it at home. I think we are getting pretty good at judging trees, as I think it's our best tree ever!

The kids hung around watching the tree get its stem cut. I ran inside of Lowe's and hung out trying to regain feeling and looking at all the great stuff until we were ready to go.
Our kids are tougher than me.

Josh is always in charge of putting the lights on the tree while I decorate the banisters and the top of the piano. Then, we all decorate the tree with the ornaments, reminiscing about our favorite ornaments and their history. We all have our favorites.

The very last thing is putting the star on the tree. We've had the same star for our tree forever. It was from Josh's great Aunt Janie.
Afterwards we sat enjoying our newly decorated house with some peanut butter cookies and hot cocoa.
Christmas is officially on it's way!
